Driver Killed After Crashing Into Mt. Prospect Public Works Building
A witness told police they saw the Westmont man driving at a high rate of speed and disobeying traffic signals prior to the accident.
MOUNT PROSPECT, IL — Police are continuing to investigate a fatal single car accident last week that killed a Westmont man after he crashed into the Village of Mount Prospect Public Works facility. Eric Zeitlin, 29, was taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, where he later died from his injuries, following the Aug. 19 accident at 1700 West Central Road.
Police said the traffic crash is currently being investigated by the department's major crash investigation team, according to a news release. Police are also asking for the public's help with any additional information about what happened.
According to police, shortly after a patrol sergeant drove into the gated public works facility at around 8:50 p.m., a white Ford Escape, driven by Zeitlin, entered the still open gate at a high rate of speed and struck the concrete bollard and building. The patrol sergeant ran over to the car and found the driver unconscious.
