DES PLAINES, IL — In an arrest seven years in the making, a Chicago woman is being charged with felony forgery at a Des Plaines bank. Chikyta Williams, 29, of the 7800 block of S. Halstead Street, was arrested Monday in connection with the crime.

According to police, Williams presented a check of $2,442.55 to a bank in the 1300 block of E. Oakton Street in January 2016. Williams was reportedly attempting to cash the check. A teller informed Williams that since the account was new, the bank would be unable to issue the total amount on the check in cash.

While verifying the name of the company on the check, the bank determined it was forged from a previous company, along with the dollar amount from $86.36 to the new amount listed. Williams left the bank prior to the arrival of police, and the incident was turned over to the detective bureau.
