Fire Causes 'Extensive' Damage To Vacant Home: Palatine FD

Twenty-five firefighters fought the Thursday night blaze on Hicks Road.

PALATINE, IL — A Thursday night fire caused "extensive" damage throughout a vacant home in the 1800 block of N. Hicks Road. No one was injured in the blaze.

The Palatine Fire Department said the fire is currently under investigation and damage estimates are not available at this time.

According to PFD, crews responded to the fire at around 10:38 p.m. The alarm was upgraded to a structure fire response while firefighters were en route based on reports of large amounts of smoke coming from the building.

The first unit arrived four minutes after the initial alarm and reported smoke and fire coming from the boarded-up home. Three hose lines were deployed to the exterior and the fire was declared under control at 11:02 p.m.

PFD said crews performed exterior overhaul to expose any hidden fire. The fire was fought by 25 firefighters, staffing four engines, one ladder truck, one rescue squad, and three ambulances, which responded to the scene along with four command officers.
