Fugitive Accused Of Sex Assault Arrested In Arlington Heights
The 33-year-old Arlington Heights man was arrested at his home in Arlington Heights last week.

LAKE COUNTY, IL – Bail has been set at $100,000 for a wanted fugitive captured and charged with criminal sexual assault. Ryan P. Vela, 33, of the 1700 block of E. Shannon Lane in Arlington Heights, was taken into custody on Feb. 23 at his home by authorities with the Lake County Sheriff's Office and U.S. Marshal's Service Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force, police said.
The sex assault charge stems from an investigation by the Vernon Hills Police Department.
On Feb. 20, officers with the U.S. Marshal's Service Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force began conducting surveillance on Vela at several locations, including his home in Arligton Heights. On Feb. 23, officers spotted Vela arrive at the home, get out of his vehicle and then head into the residence, according to a news release from the Lake County Sheriff's Office.

Officers "breached" the front door and hear voices coming from the top of the stairs on the second floor. Officers gave commands and the two individuals, who were identified as Vela and another resident, came downstairs, police said.
Vela was taken to the Lake County Jail. He is next expected in court on March 22.
