Girls Hoops: Coaches Name Hersey's Eidle To All-State Team
The University of Michigan commit helped lead the Huskies to a fourth-place finish in the state.
ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL — It was a special season for the John Hersey High School girls basketball team with just the second berth in school history into the Illinois High School Association tournament. Though the campaign ended last weekend following a loss in the IHSA 4A semifinal round to eventual champion O'Fallon, the accolades are rolling in for retiring coach Mary Fendley's team, which finished 28-10.
Point guard Katy Eidle, who will play college basketball next fall at the University of Michigan, has been named to the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association All-State first team. In addition, teammate and fellow senior Meghan Mrowicki made the IBCA's all-state third team.
"When you watch her, it looks effortless, but it's the opposite of that. She has put in so much effort to get to where she is," Fendley said of Eidle, the reigning Gatorade Illinois Player of the Year.

The Huskies, who had last played in the state tournament in 2010, finish 537-230 in Fendley's 25 years at the helm. Julia Barthel, who has been Fendley's assistant her entire career, is also retiring at the end of the school year.
