Glueckert Funeral Home Sponsoring Entry in Memorial Day Parade Honoring Veterans. Volunteers welcome to carry US Flags and honor ribbon to remember family and friends.
April 21, 2014, Arlington Heights, IL- For the second consecutive year, Glueckert Funeral Home invites veterans, their relatives and friends to join them in the Arlington Heights Memorial Day Parade on Monday, May 26. Their parade entry is an “Honor Flag and Ribbon” procession honoring Veterans, living and deceased as well as active duty members of the military.
Each participant will carry a US flag in honor of the Veteran(s) they wish to recognize. A personalized Honor Ribbon with the name of the Veteran or active service member will be provided to each person in Glueckert Funeral Home contingent. Upon entering Memorial Park, the Flags and Personalized Honor Ribbons will be displayed for the Arlington Heights Memorial Day Ceremony. The parade steps off at 9:30 am sharp (please arrive by 8:45am for check-in for flags and honor banners) from Sigwalt and Arlington Heights Road. It proceeds a little over 1 mile to Memorial Park where a ceremony honoring Arlington Heights fallen heroes and our nation’s heroes who also paid the ultimate price for our freedom from the Civil War through to the Afghanistan theaters of action. The names of veterans who have passed away in the last year will be read aloud. Arlington Heights has been honoring veterans on Memorial Day since the end of World War I.

Residents are invited to bring a flag (preferably with a pole) to Glueckert Funeral Home at 1520 N. Arlington Heights Road on or before May 20th. Glueckert has a limited number of spare flag poles available. Also, we’ll record the name of the veteran being honored to customize the Honor Ribbon Sash to be worn in the parade. Afterwards, the flags may be picked up at Glueckert Funeral Home by June 14th (Flag Day!). You may donate your flag directly to the Arlington Heights American Legion Post 208.

“This beautiful ceremony while solemn is also so uplifting at the same time” states Jackie Glueckert, the organizer of the tribute. Adding, “Last year nearly 150 people participated in the tribute unit. We’ve been looking forward to doing it annually since then. Arlington Heights is woven into the fabric of our family’s history here. The long tradition of military service from our community is a great source of pride for our entire city and our family”.
