Kitchen Fire In Apartment Complex Remains Under Investigation: Palatine FD
The Sunday afternoon fire was fought by 32 firefighters, and several local fire departments assisted.
PALATINE, IL — Local firefighters fought a Sunday afternoon blaze that started in the kitchen of a unit in a three-story apartment building. According to the Palatine Fire Department, no civilians or firefighters were injured, and the fire remains under investigation.
Palatine firefighters responded to the 1400 block of Port O'Call Drive at around 4:30 p.m. for a report of an apartment fire. The first unit reported smoke showing from the roof of a three-story apartment building, and upgraded it to a working fire response.
The initial crews located the fire in the kitchen of an apartment on the third floor. Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the fire and then ventilated to remove smoke from the building. Fire damage was confined to a single unit on the third floor, while smoke and water damage affected five additional units. The fire was declared under control at 5:02 p.m.

According to PFD, firefighting crews performed searches of the building to ensure there were no trapped civilians, while other firefighting crews performed overhaul to expose any hidden fire.
Damage estimates are not known at this time.

In all, 32 firefighters fought the blaze, staffing five engines, two ladder trucks, one rescue squad, and five ambulances, which responded to the scene along with three command officers.
Firefighters from Arlington Heights, Barrington, Buffalo Grove, Rolling Meadows, Wheeling and Long Grove provided personnel and equipment through automatic aid agreements during the fire. The Palatine Police Department assisted at the scene with traffic and crowd control. The American Red Cross assisted the families impacted by the fire.
