As Patch reported last year, Schmidt was attending a wedding last July at the Marriott, 50 N. Martingale Road. His daughter-in-law, Christine Moyer, 45, of Galena, Ohio, was also a guest at the event. Police said Moyer was leaving the wedding at around 10:15 p.m., and Schmidt reportedly followed her outside to the parking lot. He then approached her and shot her in what was described by police as an "execution-style" attack.

Moyer sustained a gunshot wound to the head and later died from her injuries after being taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital.
