MOUNT PROSPECT, IL — Following a more than three-month investigation, an arrest has been made in a November incident at a 7-Eleven. Marco C. Smith, 23, of the 4200 block of W. Adams Street, Chicago, is accused of felony attempted possession of a motor vehicle, felony burglary, and a misdemeanor count of criminal trespass to a vehicle, and was arrested Feb. 23.

On Nov. 6, 2023, police were called at 12:08 p.m. to the 7-Eleven gas station, 1201 E. Central Road, for a report of disturbance. A masked offender, later identified as Smith, had entered and then exited the victim's Mercedes-Benz SUV through the unlocked driver's side door while she was pumping gas on the passenger's side. After she finished pumping gas, the victim walked back around the rear of her vehicle towards the driver's door when she saw an unknown male wearing a mask exit her driver's seat of the car saying, "you can have it."
