Man Faces Felony Gun Charges For Week Of Incidents: Hoffman Estates PD

The 18-year-old is accused of two felonies following gun incidents on Wednesday and Thursday, with a Monday charge also being investigated.

HOFFMAN ESTATES, IL — An 18-year-old Hoffman Estates resident is facing two felony gun charges following several incidents this week. Jake A. Mateos, 18, of the 600 block of Bode Circle, was arrested Thursday and charged with felony reckless discharge of a firearm and unlawful use of a weapon. Police said more charges are pending following three separate incidents.

Mateos is due in court Saturday for a bond hearing.

On Monday, police were dispatched to the area of Lakeview Lane and Western Street for a report of shots fired at 10:51 p.m. Police arrived in the area, but did not locate any victims, damaged property or suspects.

Two days later, at 9:08 p.m., police responded to the 200 block of Flagstaff Lane for a report of shots fired. Upon arrival at the Wednesday incident, police did not locate any victims or damage to property, but did find five spent shell casings on the street.

At 4:41 p.m. Thursday, police were in the area due to the recent incidents when they found a suspicious subject near the intersection of Flagstaff Lane and Washington Boulevard. While speaking with the subject, later identified as Mateos, police found a firearm with an extended magazine and a mounted laser light. Based on the findings, Mateos was taken into custody without incident.

Police said the reckless discharge of a firearm charge stems from Wednesday's incident, while the unlawful use of a weapon was for Thursday's incident. A reckless discharge of a firearm in Monday's incident is still pending investigation, as are other charges against Mateos.
