Man Seen Smashing Car With Pole Nabbed For Drugs: Des Plaines PD

The Chicago man was charged with five felonies stemming from the Sunday incident, according to police.

DES PLAINES, IL — A Chicago man has been charged with five felonies, including possession of methamphetamine, cocaine, and methylenedioxy methamphetamine, cannabis, following a Sunday incident where police found him smashing a car with a metal pole. Eduardo Roman, 30, of the 2400 block of W. Fargo Avenue, was arrested and charged with the following:

  • felony possession with Intent to deliver cannabis (30 to 500 grams)
  • felony possession of methamphetamine
  • felony possession with intent to deliver cocaine
  • 2 felony counts of possession of a controlled substance
  • misdemeanor count criminal damage to property
  • misdemeanor count of unlawful use of cannabis (driver)
  • misdemeanor count of possession of Cannabis (30 grams to 500 grams)
  • misdemeanor count of possession of drug paraphernalia
  • ticket for unsafe backing of a roadway

Roman had a detention hearing following his arrest, was released and assigned a future court date for the charges.

According to police, officers responded to the 1000 block of Wilson Drive at 9:55 p.m. Sunday for a report of residents fighting in the front of the property. When police arrived, they saw Roman reportedly hitting a white Ford Focus with a metal pole. Police said they immediately began giving Roman instructions to drop the pole, and after he complied, he was taken into custody.

While investigating the incident, Roman voluntarily said that he traveled to the area to deliver cannabis. After an argument, Roman took a metal pole and began hitting the windows of the victim's vehicle, according to police.

Due to Roman's admission that he was there to deliver cannabis, his black Ford Escape was searched. Police said the following items were found: a large amount of a green leafy substance in the glove box, the front driver's door, and in a black backpack on the rear passenger floorboard; an item commonly used to distribute cannabis with a green leafy residue in it in the center console and THC vape pens. All items were recovered and they, along with Roman, were taken to the Des Plaines police station.

At the station, police said a search of Roman's person was conducted when the officers additionally found a plastic bag containing a various amount of substances. Police tested all substances using narcotics identification kits and they were positive for the following: methamphetamine, cocaine, and methylenedioxy methamphetamine.

The Cook County State's Attorney's Office approved the felony charges.
