Metropolis To Host Suburban Chicago’s Got Talent Show

The winner will receive a paid trip to audition for 'America's Got Talent' TV show.

Do you have a talent?

If the answer is yes, then make your way to the Suburban Chicago's Got Talent competition auditions from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 7-9 at the Metropolis Performing Arts Centre.

"This is the first year for Suburban Chicago's Got Talent," said Hollis Gorski, the arts center's marketing director. "The idea initially came from the Arlington Heights Chamber of Commerce. They wanted to do a talent competition type of event."

"From there, the idea really took off. Metropolis is more involved now — we're providing three judges for the competition, scheduling and hosting auditions, coordinating and hosting three competition shows and also working with Daily Herald [one of the event's sponsors] to promote everything about Suburban Chicago's Got Talent.

The grand prize winner will receive a paid trip to audition for the America's Got Talent TV show next year.

Judges have time to see about 300 acts at auditions and so far more than 110 acts have registered to audition.

"We have a lot of singers signed up and about a dozen bands too," Gorksi said. "We also have musical performances, dance troupes, a small gospel choir, a yo-yo trickster, a choreographed martial arts fight scene, and a few stand-up comics."

She said there will be a great variety of performances, which will expand even more as people continue to sign up.

Aspiring performers have few limitations but must be family-friendly acts as it will be an all-ages audience. Weapons and animals are not allowed.

Complete list of restrictions and policies

Suburban Chicago’s Got Talent is sponsored by Arlington Heights Chamber of Commerce, Daily Herald, Wintrust Financial and Verizon Wireless/Nokia Siemens Networks.

"After all the acts have auditioned, our screening panel will narrow the field down to the top 20 acts," Gorski said. "That's when the audience can come in and see the shows."

The top 20 show will be on July 8, the top 10 show will be July 22, and the top five show will be Aug. 5. The top five will perform again at the Taste of Arlington Heights on Aug. 11, where the winner will be announced.
