More Than 6,000 Votes Tallied in Arlington Heights

Arlington Heights had the highest early voter turnout in suburban Cook County, with 6,059 people hitting the polls during the first week of early voting, Oct. 22-28.

Arlington Heights had the highest turnout in suburban Cook County during the first week of early voting, with 6,059 people casting their ballots. Across all Cook County suburbs, 97,129 people voted early through Oct. 28

"If voters keep turning out in such large numbers, we may reach the Early Voting record set in 2008," said Cook County Clerk David Orr.

Turnout is up 84 percent when compared with the first week of Early Voting in 2008, and up 18 percent over the second week in 2008, Orr said.

However, the clerk said, comparing against 2008 is tricky because the Early Voting period is different. Early Voting began a week later this year and extends two days longer – to Nov. 2 and 3, the Friday and Saturday before the election.

When looking at total ballots cast up until nine days before the election, there were 135,083 in 2008 and 97,129 during the current Early Voting period.

But single-day turnout figures hit 17,000 much sooner this year - day five versus day 15 - and Arlington Heights already served more than 6,000 voters.

On Monday, more than 13,000 voters participated by 2 p.m., pushing the total number of early voters over 110,000.

"All signs point toward heavy turnout through Saturday," Orr said.

Suburban Cook County voters can vote at any of the Clerk's 44 Early Voting sites from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Nov. 3.

A daily breakdown of Early Voting turnout by site is available at cookcountyclerk.com. Voters can visit the website or review the list below to see which locations are the busiest.

State law requires early voters to display a government-issued photo ID to an election official before voting early. Some valid forms of photo ID include: a driver's license, state-issued ID card, passport, or student ID.
