Piatti Pronti in Arlington Heights Gives Lesson on Healthy Eating to Young People
Chef Lucia Biscaglio taught 35 students from Thomas Middle School how to prepare healthy food for themselves, during a field trip on Friday.
at 210 E. Grove Street, took time out on Friday morning and afternoon to teach 35 Thomas Middle School students how to prepare healthy food for themselves, which is also quick and easy to make.
"With the kids going off to high school soon, we as teachers thought it was important to help to give them to ability to create healthy meals for themselves, and Chef Lucia knew just what we wanted to do-she was fantasic," said Mark Goldstein, an 8th grade teacher at the school who accompanied the students.
In the morning, students came to Piatti Pronti, where they were schooled on how to use only natural and fresh ingredients to make homemade pop tarts, and prepared pizza dough - in addition to dressing up their personal pizzas with sauce, cheese and other toppings.

The students then left to see a production of The Diary of Anne Frank at the Metropolis Performing Arts Center.
They returned to Piatti Pronti at lunchtime to enjoy the pizzas they made earlier, along with Italian style sweet bread pretzels dressed up with a drizzle of chocolate sauce, for dessert.

"I had a great time today, Chef Lucia taught me some things that will help me take care of my younger brother, and to cook for myself even more," said Chianna Scheidt, an 8th grader at Thomas Middle School.
