Police Rescue Unresponsive Driver Trapped In Submerged Vehicle: Hoffman Estates PD

An investigation into the Wednesday incident at a retention pond is ongoing.

HOFFMAN ESTATES, IL — Police rescued a unresponsive female driver trapped inside her vehicle Wednesday, which was submerged in a retention pond. Authorities said the incident remains under investigation.

Hoffman Estates police were called to a report of a vehicle partially submerged in water at around 4:52 p.m. near the 5000 block of Prairie Stone Parkway, at the northwest corner of Hoffman Boulevard and Pratum Avenue.

Upon arrival, officers found the vehicle in the retention pond. A male passenger had already exited the vehicle, while the female remained trapped.

Officers immediately entered the water to assist the driver, and were able to access the vehicle and cut the driver's seatbelt. An officer removed the driver from the submerged compartment, while additional officers assisted in bringing her to shore, where life-saving measures were initiated until Hoffman Estates firefighters arrived.

Both occupants were taken to Saint Alexius Medical Center and police report they are in in stable condition following the incident.
