Police Capture Prisoner Who Slipped His Cuffs and Escaped From Courthouse (UPDATED)

Jonathan Scott, 24, was found in Arlington Heights on Wednesday after fleeing from a Cook County courthouse.

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL—Police captured a prisoner who escaped from a Rolling Meadows courthouse Wednesday after a brief manhunt involving several northwest suburban departments, the Daily Herald reports.

Jonathan Scott, 24, was apprehended by Cook County Sheriff's officers using police dogs at about 5:15 p.m. Wednesday, July 20, in Arlington Heights, close to the Cook County courthouse he had just fled, the report stated. Law enforcement agencies from Rolling Meadows, Arlington Heights, Palatine and other communities were contacted to help with the search.

Scott was at the courthouse, 2121 Euclid Ave., for a hearing in connection with the violation of an order of protection, and a judge set his bail at $30,000, the Herald reports. He also was in custody for drug charges, obstructing justice and resisting arrest, the report added.

After his hearing, Scott was handcuffed to a table, but he was able to slip out of them, the report stated. Because he wasn't wearing prison fatigues, he was able to leave the courthouse unnoticed at around 2 p.m., according to the report.

A Cook County Sheriff's spokeswoman told the Herald that the circumstances surrounding Scott's escape would be investigated.

Scott most likely will face additional charges in connection with his escape attempt. His next court date is Aug. 11.

Police are searching Rolling Meadows and Arlington Heights for a prisoner who escaped from a Cook County courthouse Wednesday afternoon, according to ABC 7 Chicago.

Officers from the Cook County Sheriff's Office and Rolling Meadows Police Department were looking for Jonathan Scott, 26, the report stated. Scott, who was at the Rolling Meadows courthouse on drug-related charges, suddenly ran from authorities Wednesday and fled the building, the report added.

The manhunt is being conducted around Northwest Highway and Yale, according to the Arlington Cardinal. Arlington Heights residents are reporting that police are searching the area.

On Facebook, the Rolling Meadows Fire Department is warning residents to stay inside and not to answer the door.
