Is QB Jimmy Garoppolo's Season Over? Arlington Heights Native Hurt in Patriots-Dolphins Game
An injured shoulder Sunday could spell the end of his days as New England's starter this year.
For slightly more than a quarter and half Sunday, New England quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo put up game statistics against the Miami Dolphins that signal callers would kill to have over an entire game.
The Arlington Heights native was 18-of-27 for 234 yards with three touchdowns in his team's 31-24 home win at Foxborough, MA. Unfortunately, Garoppolo wasn't on the field to enjoy the victory—or for the entire second half of the game. He was in the locker room being treated for an injured shoulder.
Garoppolo, who has been New England's starting quarterback while Tom Brady serves a four-game suspension, took a hard hit from Dolphins linebacker Kiko Alonso with 4:20 left to play in the second quarter, and the right-handed Rolling Meadows High School grad landed on his throwing shoulder. After the game, the Patriots wouldn't reveal the extent of Garoppolo's injury and would only say that his condition was day to day.

A report from Comcast SportsNet Boston says Garoppolo hurt his AC joint, and the injury will keep him out of New England's Thursday night game against the Houston Texans. Garoppolo could be back for the team's following game against the Buffalo Bills in Week 4. That was to be Garoppolo's final week as Brady's fill-in.

Boston Herald reporter Jeff Howe, however, says Garoppolo could be out for six weeks, which would potentially mean his days as the New England starter would be over for this year.
The early indication on Garoppolo's injury is it will take 6 weeks to heal, per source. But still undergoing full battery of tests.

According to ESPN, Garoppolo had left the Patriots' locker room before reporters were allowed into the area.

"I know Jimmy has worked so hard to get himself ready to go and put himself in great position to seize his moment, so to speak, and it's tough to see that," New England's special-teams captain Matthew Slater told ESPN. "So you really feel for the guy."
