Raja Honored with Small Business Leadership Award

Chicago United highlights Raja's deep experience in public and private sectors, efforts to promote STEM education.

Chicago United announced Raja Krishnamoorthi, Democratic candidate for Congress in Illinois’ 8th District and president of Sivananthan Labs, was named a 2015 Business Leader, an award that recognizes those who, “cultivate innovation, motivate others within their organizations and within their spheres of influence, and direct transformational change that positively impacts the bottom lines of their respective organizations.”

In his campaign for Congress, Raja has emphasized that his deep experience in the public and private sectors will help him to find ways to grow the middle class and help working families reach and hold on to economic security.

In their announcement, Chicago United discussed Raja’s experience in business and government, how Raja helped found the Public Integrity Unit as special assistant attorney general, and has been a “big promoter of innovation” as president of Sivananthan Labs.

Chicago United also highlighted Raja’s efforts to promote Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education through InSPIRE, a non-profit he co-founded. From Chicago United’s profile: “Krishnamoorthi extends his support for innovation outside the walls of business. He is president and co-founder of the Institute for Solar Photovoltaic Innovation, Research, and Edu-training (InSPIRE), which collaborates with Leave No Veterans Behind, University of Illinois at Chicago, and University of Illinois at Urbana/Champaign… to excite kids to get involved in STEM, as well as excit[ing] veterans to explore potential careers in the solar sector.” Raja is receiving this award this week at a function celebrating him and the other honorees.

Raja Krishnamoorthi currently serves as President of Sivananthan Labs and Episolar, Inc., small businesses that sell products in the national security and renewable energy industries. He is a co-founder of InSPIRE, a non-profit organization that provides training to Illinois students and veterans in solar technology, and was formerly Vice-Chairman of the Illinois Innovation Council, whose mission is to promote innovative technologies that support economic growth and job creation in Illinois. Raja resides in Schaumburg with his wife, Priya, and their two sons.
