School Locked Down Following Reports Man Had Gun: Rolling Meadows PD

The lockdown was lifted Thursday morning at Willow Bend Elementary School after the man was apprehended, according to police.

ROLLING MEADOWS, IL — Reports of a man waving a gun in traffic near Willow Bend Elementary School put the school on a hard lockdown Thursday morning, according to police and school officials. Police apprehended the man and the lockdown was lifted.

Juan F. Guzman-Andrade, 26, of the 4700 block of Arbor Drive, Rolling Meadows, was charged with disorderly conduct. Police said Thursday afternoon an investigation revealed there was no weapon involved in this incident.

Police received several calls at around 8:06 a.m. of a man waving what appeared to be a gun at passing motorists in the area of Algonquin Road and Route 53. Police searched the area, found a man matching the description given by callers, and took him into custody. During a subsequent search of the immediate area, police said they found no weapon.

When police determined the area was safe, the lockdown was lifted at 8:34 a.m. and school resumed. No injuries have been reported.

"As always, we’d like to remind our school community that safety is a shared responsibility," Community Consolidated School District 15 said in email sent to parents after the incident. "We ask for your support in following our policy of 'See Something, Hear Something, Say Something.' We depend on everyone within our school community to share information with us in order to keep our school safe."

The district also said it utilizes the Bullying/Safety Tip Line and the Safe2Help platform which allow anyone to submit an anonymous report if they have a concern.
