Schools Placed On 'Secure' Status Following Shooting: Des Plaines PD

A Thursday morning incident occurred between two cars traveling on Touhy Avenue.

DES PLAINES, IL — Two schools were placed on "secure" status following a Thursday morning shooting in the 2000 block of E. Touhy Avenue. According to Des Plaines police, classes continued inside Orchard Place Elementary and Iroquois Community School, but no one was allowed to enter or leave the schools until the status was lifted at around 9:15 a.m.

There are no reported injuries from the shooting. Police believe the incident was isolated and there is no threat to the public or the area schools.

Police responded to the area at 8:09 a.m. for a reported shooting involving a white-colored vehicle and a silver/tan car. The makes and the models of the cars were unknown at the time of this report. The cars were traveling on Touhy Avenue when the shots were fired.

Police said it is unknown if the occupants of both vehicles fired shorts or just one of them. The incident continued as the cars traveled into a residential neighborhood north of the 2000 block of E. Touhy Avenue. The vehicles fled the area prior to police arrival.
