St. Peter Student Wins National Cross Country Meet, Runners Bring Home Big Titles

St. Peter Lutheran School in Arlington Heights brings home first place, runner up and top ten titles from National Lutheran Cross Country Meet.

A brisk, sunny, fall day in Wisconsin provided nearly perfect running conditions recently for the National Lutheran Cross Country Meet where the St. Peter Lutheran School of Arlington Heights team brought home top honors.

ighth grader, Matthew Hoffman won the boys' overall race. Hoffman took the lead at the 1.25 mile marker to finish first, with a ten second margin over the Wisconsin State Champ.

The St. Peter boys’ team won the ‘Runner Up’ honor for the meet and Scott Waters and Richard Varvara received Third Team All-American titles in the 6th grade and under division.

Local 7th grader Olivia Isufi finished 10th place overall to earn the Second Team All-American title in her first year at competition.

“Our runners and the team picked a great day to run their best race of the season,” said head coach Tom Hoffman and coach Jeff Rodgers. “We are very proud of our team.”

The meet took place at Concordia University in Mequon, Wisconsin, Saturday, Oct. 20. Races are two miles and the boys had 129 runners and girls had 100.
