Student Struck By Car Crossing Arlington Heights Intersection: Police

The Buffalo Grove High School student was taken to Lutheran Hospital following the Friday accident.

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL — A student returning to classes at Buffalo Grove High School was struck by a car Friday at the intersection of Dundee and Arlington Heights roads. The 16-year-old Mount Prospect resident was taken to Lutheran General Hospital with apparent injuries to her extremities, and possibly her head, according to Arlington Heights police.

As of Friday night, police said specific injuries sustained by the student remain unknown, but were not life-threatening.

At around 11:48 a.m., Arlington Heights police and fire first responders were dispatched to the scene and found the injured student. The vehicle involved in the crash was a 2015 Nissan NV200. The driver of that vehicle, a 71-year-old Mundelein man, was not injured in the accident.

Based on preliminary information gained from an at-scene witnesses, as well as other physical evidence and a nearby surveillance video from a gas station, the car was traveling northbound on Arlington Heights Road, approaching the intersection with Dundee Road on a green traffic signal. At that time, the pedestrian ran eastbound across Arlington Heights Road in the south crosswalk and collided with the car.

Police said staff from Buffalo Grove were aware of the collision, and the family of the student were notified of the incident shortly after it occurred.

There was no evidence of impairment or excessive speed involved in the case, according to police. No citations were issued, and the vehicle involved in the crash was released to the owner.
