A four-bedroom, 2.5-bath Prospect Heights home with a golf course view is the culminating project of High School District 214’s Practical Architectural Construction (PAC) course, and it’s ready to go on the market. The District will host an open house at the home, 809 Camp McDonald Road, to highlight the talent of the more than 50 District 214 students who contributed hundreds of hours over the last two years developing their architecture and construction skills and building the house under the guidance of skilled teachers. The open house will run from 2 to 6 p.m. Thursday, June 19. The PAC program comprises students from all District 214 schools, allowing them to learn and hone skills in the building trades and establish a foundation for future success in the industry. Several graduates who’ve worked on the home have gone on to pursue construction management or architecture at four-year universities; others have gone straight into the industry with jobs in construction and electrical contracting. “This course provides a truly relevant education for these students that will carry them well beyond high school,” teacher Marc Sears said. “Students are able to learn practical skills, collaborate on tangible projects and, in the end, produce outstanding results.” The home measures 3,095 square feet and includes a deck, three-car garage and custom molding and is in the John Hersey High School attendance area. The District plans to list the home in July; revenue will fund future building projects, including more homes, constructed by the class. In addition to the house, PAC classes in the last two years have built two athletic storage areas and press boxes at Prospect and Wheeling high schools.
