Students Hear Gunshots While Waiting For Bus In Mount Prospect
Police said one of the students saw the driver of a car possibly holding a handgun out the window during the Wednesday morning incident.
MOUNT PROSPECT, IL — While waiting for the school bus Wednesday morning, four students from Lincoln Middle School heard multiple popping sounds, possibly gunshots, and saw a driver of a car holding what appeared to be a handgun out their window, according to police.
Police responded to the school at around 7:58 a.m. after one of the students alerted a school staff member about the suspicious incident from 30 minutes earlier near the intersection of Wille and Henry streets. After hearing the popping noises, they turned to see a tan four-door sedan driving through the intersection. As the sedan passed by the students, they reported seeing the driver holding a black-colored object, possibly a handgun, out of the driver’s side window. The driver didn’t say anything to the students and drove off eastbound on Henry Street toward Main Street (Route 83).
The driver of the vehicle was described as a white female in her late teens or early 20s, wearing glasses and long dark-colored hair, according to police. The students did not report any injuries as a result of this incident.
