Teen Among Candidates for Arlington Heights Park Board

A high school student is one of the four candidates competing to fill the three openings on the Arlington Heights Park District board, the Daily Herald Reports.

Jona Augustyn, an 18-year-old student at Buffalo Grove High School, is one of the four candidates competing to fill the three openings on the Arlington Heights Park District board, the Daily Herald Reports. 

The high school student will be running against two members of the group that supported the failed $39 million referendum and the current park board president for seats on the Arlington Heights Park District board in 2013.

Commissioner candidate, Tim Gelinas was the chairman of People For Our Parks, the group formed to help promote and pass the $39 million park district referendum.

William Ploger, another member of the group that supported the $39 million referendum that was rejected by voters in November, is also competing for a spot on the Arlington Heights park board, the Daily Herald reports

Park Board President, Maryfran Leno is the only incumbent in the race, district officials said. Park Commissioners Robert Whisler and Robert Smith did not file papers to run. Terms for Vice-President Myles Naughton and Commissioner Robert Nesvacil end in 2015.

Signed by 125 qualified voters who are residents of the Arlington Heights Park District, each candidate has filed nominating petitions. Accepted from Dec. 17 until Dec. 26, the deadline to file nominating petitions has now passed.

The four candidates will compete for the three commissioners spots on the Arlington Heights Park District board in the April 9, 2013 consolidated election. Park commissioners will be elected to four-year terms.
