Dear Neighbors,
I began my week in Elgin visiting Acme Design Inc. Acme was negatively affected by the recent government shutdown. We talked about the history of their business, and grant opportunities for businesses that work in the arts.
On Wednesday, my office held satellite office hours at the Bloomingdale Horizon Senior Center. Together with the Illinois Secretary of State’s office, they offered information on changes to Illinois placards for drivers with disabilities. They also discussed a variety of constituent services that are available through my office. To view those services, visit my website.

Later in the week, I hosted a Twitter chat on the topic of comprehensive immigration reform. It was great to hear from my neighbors about their thoughts this important issue.
On Thursday and Friday I visited schools that are making a commitment to providing strong math and science skills to our children. At Addams Junior High School in Schaumburg I was introduced to the FUSE program, brought to the school by Northwestern University to increase participation in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) fields. I also visited the Science Academy of Chicago in Mt. Prospect which has made a strong commitment to STEM education.

I was also able to attend a Medal of Honor Ceremony for Retired Army Captain William Swenson. It was an honor to meet Captain Swenson; he is a true patriot.
I hope you all had a great week.
Sincerely,
Congresswoman Duckworth
