“Third Party Notification” Available to All Cook County Homeowners
This service enables homeowners to designate another person or organization to be contacted if their property taxes become delinquent.

The Cook County Treasurer’s Office offers a special service for homeowners and those who care about them called Third Party Notification. Through this service, any Cook County homeowner can designate another person or organization to be contacted by the Treasurer’s Office, only if the applicant’s taxes become delinquent.
How does this program work when taxes are unpaid? The homeowner who is concerned that they may miss, or not understand a tax notice due to travel, illness, or any other reason can identify an individual or organization who will be a “backup” for communications regarding property taxes.
Who should receive notice? Homeowners should name a trusted family member, friend, or organization willing to accept the responsibility for receiving, and any communications necessary regarding tax delinquent notices.

Is the third party responsible for paying taxes? No. The third party only receives an additional notice so that they can alert the homeowner of the delinquency.
Why participate? This free program serves as an additional safety net to prevent property taxes from being sold to a tax buyer, since sold taxes can result in the loss of property.
