At its November 13, 2024 meeting, the Wheeling Township Community Mental Health Board recommended funding for its 2025/2026 fiscal year in the amount of $809,550.

At the November 19, 2024 Wheeling Township Board meeting, Wheeling Township Supervisor Kathy Penner advised the Township Board of the Mental Health Board funding recommendation, and suggested the Board agree to fully fund that amount. Supervisor Penner's recommendation will be placed on the December Board meeting agenda for approval.

“As many of us have personal experiences with friends and family in need of mental health services, the Wheeling Township Board is committed to continue to fund mental health services for Wheeling Township residents, as it has done for many years,” Penner said.

For the last 50 years, Wheeling Township has been funding mental health service agencies that directly help Wheeling Township residents in need. Supervisor Penner’s recommendation is to use available Township Fund balances to fund the Mental Health Board’s request, instead of increasing property taxes for Wheeling Township residents.

“This is a win-win for all Wheeling Township residents: those in need of mental health services, and those who face economic difficulties in these inflationary times,” Penner said. “Wheeling Township continues to live its motto of Neighbors Helping Neighbors.”
