Woman Charged With Drunken Driving In Fatal Crash: Des Plaines PD
Police said the driver of a Toyota Prius struck a Volvo semi-truck in the rear, killing a passenger, earlier this month.
DES PLAINES, IL — The driver of a car involved in a fatal crash with a semi-truck earlier this month has been charged with driving under the influence of alcohol. Giovanna Rodriguez-Fuentes, 28, of the 600 block of Colonial Lane, Des Plaines, was arrested in connection with the crash that killed a passenger in her car, Nazly Rodriguez-Munoz, in the June 1 crash.
Rodriguez-Fuentes is due back in court on Wednesday.
Police responded to the area of Algonquin Road and Leslie Lane at around 11:54 p.m. June 1, for a report of a motor vehicle crash.

Upon arrival, police found Rodriguez-Munoz, 49, who was a passenger in a Toyota Prius driven by Rodriguez-Fuentes, bleeding heavily from her leg. Responding officers applied a tourniquet to stop the bleeding. Des Plaines firefighters arrived on scene and took Rodriguez-Munoz to the hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.

A subsequent investigation has revealed that a Volvo truck was traveling at a slow rate of speed eastbound on Algonquin Road when it was struck in the rear by Rodriguez-Fuentes' Toyota Prius.
Rodriguez-Fuentes was taken to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. Police said it was later determined, through forensic evidence, that Rodriguez-Fuentes was driving under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. She was arrested on June 5 and released to custody of the Cook County Sheriff's Office.
