1 Business Caught Selling Nicotine To Undercover Cadet In Latest APD Sting

AURORA, IL — One convenience store failed the Aurora Police Department's latest undercover alcohol and tobacco compliance check, officials said.

The Aurora Police Department conducts periodical undercover details to ensure alcohol and tobacco aren't sold to minors. Cadets, who are all under the age of 21, attempted to purchase alcohol or tobacco from nine businesses at the start of August as part of the operation.

7-Eleven, at 2411 W. Sullivan Road, failed by selling nicotine to one of the cadets, police said.

These businesses were in compliance:

• BP, 2200 W. Galena Blvd.
• Joe's Tobacco and Vape, 1945 W. Galena Blvd.
• BP, 1050 E. New York St.
• BP, 1395 Butterfield Road
• Circle K, 1505 Butterfield Road
• Papa Jay's Smoke Shop, 4432 E. New York St.
• BP, 3890 E. New York St.
• Casey's, 330 N. Eola Road

"Compliance checks are an important part of keeping alcohol, tobacco, nicotine, and vape products out of the hands of minors," Special Operations Group Lieutenant Christopher McWilliams said in a statement. "We appreciate the businesses that take their responsibilities seriously, and we'll continue working with retailers throughout Aurora to promote compliance and protect our youth."

In addition to these checks, SOG conducts proactive investigations and outreach focused on reducing violent crime, gang activity, illegal firearms and narcotics throughout Aurora.
