Election Results 2016: Bill Foster Tops Tonia Khouri in 11th Congressional District Race

The incumbent will retain his seat in Congress after receiving roughly 60 percent of the vote.

AURORA, IL - Incumbent Democratic U.S. Rep. Bill Foster will retain his seat in Illinois' 11th Congressional District after defeating Republican challenger Tonia Khouri in Tuesday night's election.

Foster tallied 60 percent of the vote with 98 percent reporting, according to the Associated Press. He has 153,960 votes as of 11 p.m.

Khouri has 40 percent of the vote with 103,406 tallies.

Incumbent Bill Foster will try to hold onto his 11th District United States Congressional seat in Illinois for a second term against Republican challenger Tonia Khouri.

Foster is a Naperville resident and Khouri was born and raised in Glen Ellyn.

Foster is a scientist and businessman and is currently the only physicist in Congress.

Khouri is a small business owner who started the home services company Green T with her husband, Joe.

Foster previously served as the Illinois 14th Congressional District representative from 2008-2011. He is now on the House Committee on Financial Services.

Khouri was elected to the DuPage County Board twice and is now the chairman of economic development on the board.

Foster is for creating jobs, reforming Wall Street and access to healthcare, among other issues.

Khouri says she is focused on “national security, economic growth and lifting the poor up from poverty.” She “has opposed all tax increases and voted against increasing the salaries of county elected officials,” according to her campaign website.

Illinois’ 11th Congressional District includes many of Chicago’s largest western suburbs, including Naperville, Joliet, Bolingbrook and Aurora.
