2 Aurora Nursing Homes Fined By Department Of Public Health

AURORA, IL — Two Aurora nursing homes have been cited by the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) for violations of the Home Care Act. Elmwood Terrace Healthcare Center and The Grove of Fox Valley were each fined $25,000 for "A' violations, which are defined as "a condition in which there is a substantial probability that death or serious mental or physical harm will result, or has resulted."

According to the IDPH, Elmwood Terrace Healthcare Center's violation stemmed from an incident in which a resident had a maggot-infested wound. The facility, located at 1017 W. Galena, was fined for " failure to monitor and implement interventions to prevent a maggot infestation in a resident’s wound."

The Grove of Fox Valley, located at 1601 North Farnsworth Avenue was fined for "failure to ensure two staff members assisted residents with bed mobility and toilet use."

The IDPH wrote that the aforementioned violations took place between July and September 2019.

Elmwood Terrace Healthcare Center is a 68-bed facility that offers short term care, occupational therapy, and nursing home services. The facility's additional listed services include sub-acute rehab and wound care, according to it's website.

The Grove of Fox Valley is a 158-bed facility that offers post-hospital care that includes cardiac care, oncology care, and post-surgical recovery, its website states.
