Seventy-five (75) seats will be available in the Magnet program for incoming 3rd graders offered at Johnson Elementary for the 2020-21 school year. Next year, Johnson Elementary will serve students in grade 1 through 5, with the Magnet Academy serving students in grades 3 and 4.
Parents and guardians of current second graders who will enter 3rd grade in the fall are invited to apply and enter a lottery, with 75 seats available. Applications will open on February 24, 2020, and close on March 20, 2020, at 3:00 p.m.

Timeline for 3rd Grade Magnet program at Johnson Elementary
- February 24, 2020: Online Application available
- March 20, 2020, 3:00 p.m.: Deadline to submit online application
- March 27, 2020: Parent will be notified of eligibility status
- April 8, 2020: Lottery held at Johnson Elementary (75 seats available for incoming 3rd graders)
- April 13, 2020: Parents notified of students selection or wait list status
- April 30, 2020: Deadline for parents to return the Acceptance of Enrollment form
Elementary Magnet Academy at Johnson Elementary School
- Location: 1934 Liberty St., Aurora IL
- School calendar: Follows East Aurora School calendar
- Transportation: Transportation provided if student qualifies
- School hours: 8:30 am – 3:30 pm
- Curriculum: STEM-centered curriculum, uses District 131 textbooks, materials and resources as a base for extensions
- Technology: 1:1 – all students are provided a school issued laptop to take between home and school for the year
- English Language Learners: Sheltered and part time instruction is available in grades 3 and 4. All classes are taught in English.
Eligibility criteria will include achievement scores on MAP test Reading and Math, teacher recommendations, and student grades.
