3 Unrelated Shootings In Aurora Sunday Left 2 Injured: Police

One person was shot in downtown Aurora, while another was shot on Symphony Drive Sunday night. Two incidents appear targeted, police said.

AURORA, IL — Three shootings took place in Aurora Sunday, and police believe none are related, officials said. Between the three incidents, two people were injured, and two shootings appeared targeted, according to police.

One shooting that appeared to be targeted, police said, took place near the intersection of Inverness Drive and McCoy Drive around 9 p.m. When officers were dispatched to the location, they said they found several bullet holes and shell casings along McCoy Drive.

A preliminary investigation showed that the victims were driving east on McCoy when another car pulled up alongside theirs and began firing shots before driving away in the opposite direction, according to Aurora police.

"Thankfully none of the bullets hit any of the people inside the vehicle and no one was injured," police said in a Monday afternoon news release.

Just half an hour later, police were called to the 1000 block of Symphony Drive — about two miles away from the intersection of Inverness and McCoy — where they found a woman shot in the shoulder. According to police, she was sitting in a car outside her home when she was shot.

At least one bullet entered a nearby house and was found lodged into a couch, police said. Detectives and evidence technicians visited the house to collect evidence and canvas the neighborhood.

The woman who was shot was taken to a hospital and is expected to survive, according to police.

An hour later, around 11 p.m., police responded to the third shooting that took place in the span of a few hours. A man was shot at a bar in the 200 block of East Galena Boulevard. He was taken to a hospital and is expected to survive, police said.

Detectives and evidence technicians again responded to the bar to collect evidence and interview witnesses. Police said according to the initial investigation, the shooting appears to be targeted but not related to the previous incidents.

All three shootings are currently under investigation by detectives. Anyone with information or video of either shooting is asked to call APD's Investigations Division at 630-256-5500 or email tips@aurora.il.us.
