30 Gallons Of Bleach Leak Into Storm Drains: Aurora FD

The incident occurred on Beverly Drive in Aurora.

AURORA, IL — About 30 gallons of bleach spilled out of a semi-truck Tuesday morning in Aurora, police and fire officials said.

The Aurora Fire Department was called at 10:25 a.m. to the 2700 block of Beverly Drive for a report of a punctured container of concentrated bleach inside the semi. Some of the bleach began leaking into nearby storm drains, according to first responders.

Fire crews quickly contained the spill, recovered material from catch basins and secured the container to stop the leakage. A private contractor also helped with the cleanup, which ended around 3:40 p.m.

It's unclear how the container was punctured. Patch reached out to the Aurora Fire Department and will update this article when a response is received.

Officials said that although there was no threat to the public, drivers were encouraged to avoid the area while crews cleared it. All roadways have reopened.
