At around 10:45 p.m. July 4, police responded to the 1300 block of Grand Boulevard for a report of someone shot. Before arriving, it was learned that two 32-year old Aurora residents, a male and female, were being taken by a third party to an Aurora hospital.

Upon arrival at the hospital, police learned the pair was sitting in their parked car on Calhoun Street just south of Grand when a silver SUV with tinted windows pulled alongside and someone in the vehicle opened fire. The man was able to flag down a passing vehicle which took them to the hospital.

The man was treated and released for a gunshot wound to his chest and the woman was admitted for a gunshot wound to her neck. Aside from the car in which the two were sitting, nothing else appeared to be hit. There was no further suspect information.

Around 2:30 a.m., July 3, a 19-year-old Aurora man was shot in the leg as he sat with several people around a bonfire in a backyard in the 300 block of Grant Place on the Near East Side.

Nothing else was found to be hit by gunfire. The victim was transferred to a suburban hospital for further treatment.

It is not known if any of the shootings are related.
