$50,000 Bail for Aurora Man Who Tried to Rob Bakery

The 44-year-old man is accused of attempting to hold up the Near East side bakery in October.

A 44-year-old Aurora man is being held on a $50,000 bail for allegedly trying to rob a bakery in Aurora in October.

Steven H. Willett, of the 100 block of West Galena Boulevard in Aurora, is charged with attempted aggravated robbery in connection with the Oct. 26 stick up of a Near East side bakery.

Willett is accused of entering the bakery in the 200 block of Jackson Street around 10 p.m. on Oct. 26 and implying he had a weapon before demanding money from two female workers, according to a news release from the Aurora Police Department.

When one of the women became scared and ran to the back of the store, Willett allegedly turned around and ran out of the bakery without any proceeds. There were no injuries in the incident, police said.

During the investigation, detectives received information that pointed to Willett’s alleged involvement in the attempted robbery and they secured probable cause to arrest him, police said. At about 12:41 a.m. on December 2, a patrol officer spotted Willett walking in the area of River Street and North Avenue and took him into custody.
