50 West Aurora High Students Designated State Scholars
Each year, the Illinois Student Assistance Commission honors students based on SAT, ACT or class rank.
AURORA, IL — The Illinois Student Assistance Commission has designated 50 West Aurora High School students State Scholars due to their "exceptional" academic achievement, the district announced Thursday.
The Aurora students are among about 16,770 honorees from across the state joining the thousands of students who have been recognized since the designation was introduced in 1958.
To become a State Scholar, students must perform in the top one-half of their high school class at the end of the sixth semester and score at or above the 95th percentile on the ACT or SAT.

"We are very proud of all of our students, but particularly those who have distinguished themselves as Illinois State Scholars," Principal Chuck Hiscock said in a statement. "They have worked incredibly hard to set goals, tackle difficult problems, and commit themselves to academic excellence."
He continued: "In addition to their work in the classroom, these students are athletes, musicians, artists, thespians, community volunteers, and leaders. Their success reflects well both on our school and the outstanding students, faculty, and families that make up the West Aurora community."
