6 People Displaced After Aurora House Fire

AURORA, IL — Six people were displaced after an Aurora house fire Friday afternoon.

According to Aurora Fire Department Lt. Jim Rhodes, crews were called out to the 900 block of Second Avenue at 1:20 p.m. July 1. Upon arrival, crews found a one-story single family home with heavy smoke showing from the rear.

Rhodes said the fire was discovered by one of the occupants, who then alerted the other residents and called 911. There were six people home at the time of the fire and all of them were able to self-evacuate.

It took 27 firefighters just under an hour to put out the fire. The structure was deemed uninhabitable. Red Cross and Victim Services assisted the residents.

There were no reported injuries to firefighters or civilians. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. The cost of damage was estimated at $200,000.
