3. 1 Business Caught Selling Nicotine To Undercover Cadet In Latest APD Sting (patch.com) — Aurora police used underage cadets to test nine local businesses on alcohol and tobacco compliance, and one 7-Eleven on West Sullivan Road was caught selling nicotine to a minor. Officials praised the eight compliant locations and stressed that these checks, along with broader Special Operations Group efforts, aim to keep harmful products away from Aurora's youth and reduce crime citywide.
4. Marmion Academy set to welcome girls as students for first time ever Monday (abc7chicago.com) — Marmion Academy in Aurora is opening its 94th school year by welcoming girls as students for the first time, with up to 80 freshmen and sophomores arriving Monday. The Catholic college-prep school is rapidly building a full girls athletic program, from hiring coaches to launching seven sports, as it transitions from a long-time all-boys institution to a fully coed campus.
5. Aurora education efforts on lead in water (thevoice.us) — Aurora's water division is stepping up education and pipe replacement after elevated lead levels were found in select homes, even though water leaving the treatment plant is lead-free. Residents can check an online map, request service line replacement, and may qualify for free city work and filtration devices depending on test results and project timing.
