Applications Open For Aurora Police Youth Explorers Post
The program gives youth between the ages of 14 and 20 a hands-on look at the world of policing.
AURORA, IL — Applications are open for the Aurora Police Department's Youth Explorers Post, a bimonthly program that teachers what it's like to be a police officer.
Twice a month, the group of 14- to 20-year-olds will meet for lessons in various aspects of policing. Explorers will learn real-world scenarios in a controlled environment with officers from multiple units across the police department.

- Traffic stops
- Handcuffing, pat down, search and control tactics
- Crisis negotiation
- Police calls for service, including domestic disturbances, suspicious persons and crisis intervention
- Report writing
- Law review
- Bomb scene
- Building clearing
- Physical training
An open house to discuss the program is scheduled for 6 p.m. Aug. 26 at police headquarters, 1200 E. Indian Trail Road. The application deadline is 6 p.m. Sept. 2.
