AURORA, IL - Aldermen are sending students back to school ready to learn by hosting annual events that offer free school supplies, food and fun for the entire family. The City of Aurora is supporting the aldermen by providing additional grade-level school supplies to help make sure all students are prepared to succeed.
Alderman Irvin's Back-to-School Fair - 8/12/16
On Friday, Aug. 12, Alderman-at-Large Richard Irvin and AAMOU will host the 8th Annual Back-to-School Fair in partnership with 6th Ward Alderman Mike Saville and the Fox Valley United Way. The event includes food, haircuts, games and free supplies. Parents and children must both be present to receive supplies.

On Sunday, Aug. 14, 2nd Ward Alderman Juany Garza and the Ward 2 Committee host the 11th Annual Ice Cream Social. The event includes school supplies, live music, performances from La Bomboncita the Clown and Those Funny Little People, face-painting by Pancakes the Clown, and free food and ice cream. The Ward 2 Ice Cream Social will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 14, at McCarty Park, 350 E. Galena Blvd. Hot dogs are served between 1 and 2 p.m. Ice cream is served between 2 and 3 p.m. with entertainment to follow.
Alderman Hart-Burns' Back-to-School Bash - 8/21/16
On Sunday, Aug. 21, 7th Ward Alderman Scheketa Hart-Burns and Main Baptist Church will host the 29th Annual Back-to-School Bash at Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Park. Special guest appearances will be made by NBA World Champion Eddie Curry and his wife, Reality TV star and author Patrice Curry with special performances by Opal Staples, Barbetta Neil, Darius Brooks and the world-famous Walt Whitman and the Soul Children of Chicago. There will be free food, t-shirts, haircuts, hair styling and school supplies for students. Download flyer
In collaboration with the Ward 7 Committee and many neighborhood groups, the Back-to-School Bash will be held from 1 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 21, at Martin Luther King, Jr. Park, at the corner of Farnsworth Avenue and Grand Boulevard. For more information, call Alderman Hart-Burns at 630-898-2943.
