Aurora Armed Robber Charged With Holding Up Elderly Man Outside Senior Home: Police

Adrian Gerena, who was wanted in connection with the 2015 armed robbery, was arrested Tuesday.

A 23-year-old Aurora man has been charged in connection with an armed robbery of a senior citizen last summer.

Adrian S. Gerena, of the 400 block of North River Street, was taken into custody Tuesday morning by the U.S. Marshals Great Lakes Fugitive Task Force. He has been charged with aggravated armed robbery and is being held at the Kane County Jail on a $40,000 bond.

Gerena was wanted in connection with the July 1, 2015 armed robbery of a 66-year-old Aurora man who was waiting for his wife to leave the senior citizen home where she worked in the 400 block of North Lake Street, according to an Aurora Police Department press release.

The victim told police that at around 9:45 p.m. that evening, he was approached by an armed, masked suspect who demanded the man’s wallet as he sat in his vehicle while it was parked in the senior citizen home’s parking lot, according to police.

The suspect then ran northbound. During the investigation, police used video surveillance to piece together Gerena’s alleged involvement in the robbery. The victim was not physically injured.
