Aurora Considers Recreational Marijuana Shop On Route 59: Report

Zen Leaf already got a favorable recommendation from the city's planning committee.

AURORA, IL — The city of Aurora is considering plans to open its first recreational marijuana spot in an old commercial building on Route 59. Zen Leaf already got a positive recommendation from the city's planning commission for its proposal to open at 740 N. Route 59, according to Chicago Tribune.

Zen Leaf plans to buy the 11,000 square foot building at the site and open in the vacant suite. The store would sell adult use recreational cannabis and could create up to 40 new jobs.

Zen Leaf currently operates a medical marijuana dispensary in St. Charles, which allows them a license to open a recreational marijuana location per state law. The medical marijuana, which is located in St. Charles, store sells cannabis flowers, edibles, topicals, and CBD.

Aurora opted in to allow recreational cannabis sales in late October. If Zen Leaf is approved by city officials to open its store, its hours would be Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Chicago Tribune reports.

Recreational marijuana becomes legal for adult use across Illinois on Jan. 1, 2020.
