Aurora Food Pantry Now Available For Delivery On DoorDash

The partnership with the popular food delivery service comes at no cost to the food pantry or to the people receiving groceries.

AURORA, IL — Locals who get fresh groceries from Aurora Area Interfaith Food Pantry no longer have to leave the house to do so.

The nonprofit organization, located at 1110 Jericho Road, partnered with DoorDash to deliver fresh produce weekly to locals in need, officials said Monday. The pantry's To-Go program has been running since the start of the pandemic but expanded in July with the help of the popular food delivery service.

The program connects DoorDash drivers who live within 10 miles of the food pantry with 10 pounds of groceries, which are then brought directly to people's doorsteps. The partnership is only available for people who use the food pantry's services — not DoorDash customers.

Executives at the food pantry said the delivery service helps offset the organization's limited volunteers and resources while reaching more people in the community.

"We know there are people in our community who lack transportation, are homebound, or infirm, making a life-saving trip to the Aurora Food Pantry impossible," Shannon Cameron, executive director at the Aurora food pantry, said in a statement. "Through the generosity of DoorDash, we will be able to bridge the gap for those who cannot visit us. We could not be more thankful for this partnership and the opportunity to expand our Pantry To-Go program."

The partnership comes at no cost to the food pantry or to the people receiving groceries, according to Cameron.

"Our ability to help those who are food insecure has been impacted tremendously thanks to the generosity of DoorDash," she said. "It is truly heartwarming to partner with such an amazing company and we are extremely grateful for their support."
