Aurora Home Uninhabitable Following Sunday Blaze

No one was injured in a house fire Sunday afternoon on the city's near south side.

AURORA, IL - An Aurora home is uninhabitable following a fire Sunday afternoon on the city’s near south side.

An Aurora police officer was flagged down while patrolling in the area of Hartford Avenue by a bystander who said there was smoke coming from a home at 520 Hartford Avenue. Firefighters responded at about 4:31 p.m. Sunday to the blaze at the 1.5-story single-family home, according to an Aurora Fire Department press release.

When they arrived, they found heavy smoke coming from the home, according to the news release. The fire was quickly brought under control.

No one was home at the time of the fire and no one was injured in the blaze, fire officials said.

The house is uninhabitable and the fire caused an estimated $110,000 in damage to the home and $50,000 in damage to the contents of the house, according to the news release.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
