Aurora To Host Inaugural German Flag-Raising Ceremony
Monday's ceremony will celebrate German Unity Day, which is observed annually on Oct. 3.
AURORA, IL — The City of Aurora will celebrate German Unity Day with an inaugural German flag-raising ceremony Monday.
The event is set to start at 11 a.m. at One Aurora Plaza, 8 E. Galena Blvd.
The holiday, celebrated annually on Oct. 3, commemorates the reunification between the Federal Republic of West Germany and the German Democratic Republic in 1990. The day marked the first time since 1945 that there was a single German state.

Aurora officials will be joined by the German Consulate General in Chicago's office, organizers of the Christkindlmarket Aurora and local German-American community advocates to celebrate the holiday.
