Aurora Literacy Center In Need Of English Tutors
Tutors at Dominican Literacy Center will meet one-on-one with students for weekly 90-minute sessions from September to May.

AURORA, IL — Dominican Literacy Center is looking for volunteers to teach students to read, write and speak in English.
About 130 adult students are expected to begin classes at the center, at 260 Vermont Ave. in Aurora, in September, according to a news release. Before classes begin, training workshops for prospective tutors will be held Aug. 16, 18 and 23 at the center. Teaching experience is not required, but being vaccinated against COVID-19 is.
Alison Brzezinski, tutoring coordinator at Dominican Literacy Center, is hoping to train 25 tutors.

Tutors will meet one-on-one with students for weekly 90-minute sessions from September to May.
Training will include planning lessons, using textbooks, conducting oral drills and information on what to expect in classes. Tutors will also learn about prospective students, including how many years they've been in the United States, what their previous education is, and how often they speak English at home or at a job.

Available teaching aids will include picture dictionaries and other material for vocabulary, writing, conversation, grammar and group activities. Dominican Literacy Center staff will be available to assist, answer questions and resolve issues, according to the release.
