AURORA, IL — An Aurora man faces multiple felony charges after police say they found a handgun, bullets and methamphetamine inside his car. According to police, Jesus M. Perez, 34, was sleeping inside his car, which was parked in an alley in the 700 block of Talma Street, when an officer first approached him around 2 a.m.

Police say Perez opened the car door after the officer knocked, which led the officer to see four unused bullets in the door of the car. According to Kane County State's Attorney's Office, the police officer asked Perez to put his hands in the air, but Perez refused, which led the officer to pull him from the car.

Perez was taken into custody after a struggle, police say. They add that a subsequent search uncovered a handgun, more bullets and methamphetamine inside the car. Perez was not allowed to have a gun due to a recent domestic battery conviction.
