Aurora Plans Cultural, Arts District Downtown

The International Marketplace District will celebrate Aurora's rich cultural diversity.

AURORA, IL -- Downtown Aurora is be one step closer to realizing its vision of a cultural and arts district. City officials recently held a public meeting to workshop the development of what will be called the International Marketplace District along Broadway to celebrate the city's rich cultural diversity.

The workshop meeting was attended by local musicians and artists who are involved in the project, along with "a few dozen business and property owners," according to a post on the Downtown Aurora website. Participants brainstormed ideas for the cultural district, suggested names, and viewed different design ideas.

The International Marketplace District would run along Broadway between New York Street and Downer Place. The project, helmed by the Office of Economic Development, Aurora Downtown, and the city's Historic Preservation and Public Art Commissions will be designed as part of the city's master plan to "create a sense of place and celebrate the many diverse cultures represented in the City of Aurora."
